Some interesting updates for those that are paying attention. There is a 13 year old Australian Shephard, Male, who is in need of a good, loving home since his owner died about 3 weeks ago. The owner's family is making sure he is fed, watered, and let outside to potty, but have paid him no attention other than that. If interested, call Linda at:: (541) 459-6280

Susan at Ray's Food Place in Sutherlin, in the meat department, is looking to gain ownership of a golden retreiver puppy. If you have one and are looking to find it a new home, please get in touch with her at Ray's Food Place and let her know.

June 24, 2006

Drawing for the raffle tickets for each of the basket items will now take place on July 15th, not the 22nd. Also, trees that were marked to be cut down in Hartley Park are gone. Sutherlin Family Church Youth Group is working on cutting them up to be used as firewood for the needy. We also need some volunteers to help get rid of the poison oak, blackberry vines, and other brush in the park area. If you are willing to donate your time to this, please call June McClellan at (541) 459-5738 or Don Marshal at (541) 459-2602. We will be setting up a table there and handing out information on the dog park as well as accepting donations. Park plan was approved by City Council, so all we have to do now is raise the money to build it. Our plan is to apply for grants. At this time, we have put at least one donation jar out at Cafe Oasis, in Sutherlin, and one at the Sutherlin Vet, should anyone be interested in donating towards putting the dog park above the paved parking area at Hartely Park. There will be a Flea-Market and basket raffles on June 3rd at the Grange Hall. On May 20th, not yet decided, a possible Flea Market at the Grange Hall.

April 13th, 2006

Parks Advisory meeting:: Rick Tabor made a motion to send a recommendation to the city council for a dog park above the paved parking lot at Hartley Park. The motion was seconded by Nancy McClung. On May 8th, the city council will be meeting to approve this recommendation.

March 13, 2006

Made proposal asking the city of Sutherlin if we could have the upper portion of Hartley park, above the parking lot, for a fenced in, off-leash dog park. The city council heard us out, and also, Dr. Kadas was there to support us, who owns the property next to Hartley. He voiced to the city council that he thought the park would be a good idea and maybe due to it, Hartley park could be cleaned up and made useful. Rick Tabor, a council member, suggested that we go back to the park's advisory committee with this proposal and he would be sure that we were on their agenda at the next meeting. We learned and were assured at this council meeting that Hartley park was not, at this time, up for sale. New supporter for the park is Dr. Mary Herrera, our Sutherlin vet. She made this known by letter to the city council. Next steering committee meeting is on April 3rd, at Apple Peddler, at 5:30 pm.

Feb 27, 2006

At this meeting, Bud Schmidt, the city manager made known that Hartley park was now open park space at this time.

Attended a city council meeting at East Primary School Library in Sutherlin. Presented a proposal letter to Todd Munsey to put us on the agenda for the next council meeting to be held on March 13th.

Letter has been prepared along with mission statement to present to business owners in regards to what the fund raiser is about and what it will accomplish. This letter will be put on a letterhead with our address, phone #'s, and website url. Prepared by Lori Snyder. Next Parks Advisory Board Meeting will take place on January 19th at 7pm at the Conference Room at City Hall 126 east Central Ave in Sutherlin.
