Bake sale on Nov. 18th at the Dollar Country Store went fairly well, means more in the account towards the Sutherlin Dog Park. Thank you to all that contributed either by making baked goods or buying the products and raffle tickets for the chopper. Will be drawing for the chopper on November 24th, and winner will be announed in the paper ((North County News)). Winner will also be called.

We will be discussing next fund raiser in our meeting on December 5th at the Apple Peddler.

Our Advisory Parks Committee meeting will be in January. Date to be announced.

November 10, 2005

2 Parks Advisory board members said that using the festival grounds on Waite street for a park within a park ((dog park)), is an idea since it would be used more than once a year and for more than a two day span.

Steering committee for the dog park is holding a bake sale and selling raffle tickets for a chopper. Tentative date is November 18th.

Next steering committee meeting is on December 5th, at the Apple Peddler.

October 26th 2005

Parks Advisory Meeting on October 12th, the animal park was mentioned, and they are still saying we could have a park within a park. So, possibly, this is what is going to take place, but we are unsure of when. Keep encouraging by word-of-mouth and signing petitions around town to let Sutherlin know this is very much the wish of many residents.

There is also a meeting on November 3rd and 17th with the Parks Advisory Committee here in Sutherlin at the City Hall.

Also, if you or anyone you know has lost a dog, feel free to email zayliepet@hotmail.com with an image, description, and mailing address. We can make flyers for you and also put the info up on this page in order to help you find your missing pooch.

And if you haven't been able to get a copy of the October 12th North County News, email us and we will get a copy to you. We would like as many different people as possible to write a letter to the editor, giving their viewpoint on the article and whether they'd like a dog park in Sutherlin. For more information, feel free to call one of the members of the Dog Park Steering committee.

September 23, 2005

October 3rd is our next meeting and will be held, at 5:30 pm, at the Apple Peddler for the steering committee.

Will be discussing Liabilities concerns for county and city dog parks, and will be presenting this to the parks advisory board on October 12th, tentative. Our next Fund Raiser will be held in October and will be a dog costume contest. Dress your pooches up and get them judged! Dogs will be judged in many different categories, prizes will be given out, discussing an entry fee of $8.50 to $10, which will also be decided at our next meeting on October 3rd. We also discussed a car wash as a fund raiser, but have not decided if we are going to do this or not. Don't know why Liability is a concern, there have been 5 dog parks in Tacoma, and they say that Jim Micheals, Minneapolis Park Board attorney has stated that off-leash recreation areas pose fewer liability issues than most other forms of recreation in the park system. This was written up by the Off-Leash Dog Park Citizen's Advisory Panel in Metro Parks, Tacoma. The website is http://www.geocities.com/tacomaola .

Next meeting is to be held on September 9th at 5:30 p.m. at the Apple Peddler. We will be discussing officers, IRS # for our dog park, bank where money will be deposited, p. o. box AND OUR NEXT FUND RAISER.
